Swansea Bay for Watersports is a three-year project designed to raise the profile of watersports events, activities and operators in the Swansea Bay area.

The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and public sector sources including the Welsh Government, the City & County of Swansea and Bridgend County Borough Council, with the aim to make Swansea Bay the first choice destination for beach and water based activities in the UK.

For this sub-regional project, Swansea Bay encompasses parts of the City & County of Swansea (Swansea and Mumbles), and Bridgend (Porthcawl and Rest Bay).

 Swansea Bay for Watersports has focused on six capital developments:

  • Improvement of facilities at Knab Rock
  • Adrenaline centre at St Helens
  • Floating pontoon at Swansea Marina
  • Olga sailing vessel
  • Rest Bay redevelopment
  • Porthcawl Harbour scheme

 Watersports activities that the project aims to promote includes:

  • Surfing
  • Windsurfing
  • Sailing
  • Boating
  • Land yachting
  • Yachting
  • Canoeing
  • Kayaking
  • Kitesurfing
  • Diving
  • Swimming
  • Stand up paddle boarding
  • Beach volleyball
  • Beach football
  • Beach rugby
