Bae Fest Swansea Bay 2013

Bae Fest - one of Wales' biggest and best Beach Festivals, Swansea Bay

Bae Fest is back this year and promises to be even bigger and better than before.

One of Wales’ largest free beach festivals, held at Swansea Bay on the 28 – 29 September 2013, is an unique and colourful event with a carnival atmosphere.

The two day seaside extravaganza will be packed with an exciting mix of water and land-based events.

There’ll be have-a-go sport sessions including beach volleyball and cycling, traditional craft demonstrations, kids’ entertainment, beach and water sport competitions, and lots more – so there’s sure to be something for everyone.

We’re packing three marquees full of fun things to do and interesting stuff to discover.

Natural Environment
You’ll need to unwind in this marquee’s Fairtrade Café after making your way around the many things to discover in the Natural Environment zone including:

  • Make bird nests from mud and twigs with Rosehill Quarry volunteers.
  • Learn to spot and identify different birds with the RSPB.
  • Find out how our household waste ends up in streams and what you can do to prevent it with guys from the Clear Streams project.
  • Discover how Natural Resources Wales are beginning to predict the quality of the water around our coast.

Culture and Heritage
Get creative or delve into the past in this zone:

  • Craft an impressive artwork with Sculpture by the Sea from whatever you find along the strandline.
  • Get to know some of our smallest creatures with the team from Plantasia. Handle a cockroach, snail or stick insect, if you dare!
  • Find out more about our past with interesting objects from the collection at Swansea Museum.
  • Discover what lay hidden for centuries at Oystermouth Castle.

Sport and Leisure
Make sure you visit this zone if you’re looking to improve your wellbeing, make a change and live a healthier, more sustainable life.

  • Watch the cooking demonstrations using local produce and pick up some great recipes for you to try at home.
  • Get some useful tips to help you grow your own food. Swansea Council’s growing team will be on hand to offer advice and show you how to assess your soil and choose appropriate plants.
  • Check out what your local leisure centre has to offer and seek advice from the sport, health and fitness experts on how you can kick your bad habits and start living a more active, healthier lifestyle.
  • If that’s not enough you can also enjoy the many activities outside the marquees including:
  • Cycling on one of Bikeability’s many bikes – a great way to try out different cycles.
  • Free beach volleyball coaching sessions with 360 Beach and Water Sports Centre. They’re also running stand up paddle boarding kayaking sessions from 11.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday and 12.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday – pre-book online at www.360swansea.co.uk/category/activities/.
  • Free use of 360’s beach soccer, rugby and tennis courts.

Marine Conservation Society’s Blue Mile
We’re kicking things off on Saturday with a one mile walk in fancy dress raising money for the Marine Conservation Society’s Blue Mile appeal. Dress up as fish, lobster, any marine animal or simply all in blue and join in the fun. No sponsorship required. MCS will be collecting donations on the day. Meet at 11.00am on site for 11.30am start.

There will be free parking available at the Recreation Ground during the weekend of Bae Fest.
